About Sky Jump
Sky Jump is a vertical climbing game. Your frog bounces automatically every time it lands on a platform, and you steer it left and right to keep landing higher and higher. The only way to lose is to miss and fall off the bottom of the screen.
How to play
- The frog bounces by itself; you never press a jump button. Every bounce from a platform is the same height.
- You can jump up through platforms from below. The frog only lands when it is falling down onto the top of one.
- Going off the left or right edge of the screen brings the frog back on the opposite side.
- Your score is the height you have climbed. The screen scrolls up as you climb, and platforms that leave the bottom are gone.
- Green platforms stay still. Orange platforms slide from side to side and bounce off the edges.
- The higher you climb, the further apart the platforms are, the more of them move and the faster they move. This keeps increasing until a height of about 1,500, after which it stays the same.
- Falling below the bottom of the screen ends the game.
Controls
- Keyboard: hold Left and Right arrows, or A and D, to steer. Any of these keys, or Space, starts the game.
- Mouse: the frog drifts towards the pointer's horizontal position while the pointer is over the game. Moving the mouse over the game also starts it.
- Touch: touch and hold to the left or right of the frog to steer towards your finger; let go to stop steering.
Tips and strategy
- Use the screen wrap. If the next platform is on the far right and you are on the far left, going left through the edge can be the shorter route.
- Steer while rising, not just while falling. You have the whole bounce to line up the next landing.
- Aim for the platform just above you rather than the highest one you can see. Skipping platforms gains nothing and risks a fall.
- On moving orange platforms, aim for where the platform will be when you land, and consider landing near its centre to allow for its motion.
- As platforms spread out higher up, keep the frog under control and avoid overshooting sideways; small, early adjustments are safer than big late ones.
Background
Vertical platform jumpers, where the character bounces automatically and the player only steers, became a popular mobile genre around 2009, partly because steering by tilting a phone suited the format. The idea of climbing by landing on platforms goes back further to early platform games, but auto-bouncing removed the jump button entirely. The endless climb, with gaps that widen as you rise, turns each run into a test of how far your steering holds up.
Questions
- How do I jump?
- You do not need to. The frog bounces automatically every time it lands on a platform. You only steer left and right.
- Does it get harder?
- Yes. Platforms spread further apart and more of them move, and move faster, as you climb. The difficulty stops rising at a height of around 1,500.
- Where is my best height saved?
- In your browser's local storage on this device.
